Jenise May: Candidate for State Senate District 25
https://www.facebook.com/MayFor25/
Jenise is a 4th generation Colorado native, and grew up in the Denver area. Her parents are working class folks who value personal responsibility, social causes that are effective and fiscal accountability. Her dad was a small business owner who started several auto upholstery shops, and her mother worked in human services for Adams County.
In the legislature Janise was appointed to the Joint Budget Committee in her first term. Some of the accomplishments were: allowed Community Colleges to offer 4-year degrees in applied sciences, establishing a statewide child welfare hotline for abused and neglected children, increased the TABOR reserved to 6%, increase higher education funding and capped tuition increase, reduced business property taxes while still increasing K-12 funding. I now want to continue to take that experience and those values and represent the people of Senate District 25 in the state legislature.

Mary Hodge: Candidate for Adams County Commissioner
http://www.maryhodgeforadams.com/
https://www.facebook.com/maryhodgeforadams/
https://ballotpedia.org/Mary_Hodge
Mary Hodge has served in House District 30 and Senate District 25.
As Chair and Vice-Chair of the Joint Budget Committee, she worked to pass budgets with historic bipartisan support. By working collaboratively, they restored the homestead tax exemption for seniors, stopped the cuts to education funding, and funded an economic development office that will work to bring new businesses and jobs to Colorado. This kind of action is what she will take to Adams County as the next County Commissioner.
Mary plans to continue my record of working together to get the job done in Adams County the same way she did at the State level. She wants to continue to responsibly grow the Adams County workforce to create long term economic growth. Adams County must find ways to invest in innovative, 21st-century classrooms by putting partisanship aside, and focusing on results.
Mary Hodge is a member of the Colorado State Senate, representing District 25. She was first elected to the chamber in 2008.
Hodge is not running for re-election to the Colorado State Senate in 2016 because she is term-limited. Hodge served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 2000 to 2008. She is currently Member/Co-Captain/Captain 36B of the Precinct Committee and a member of the Adams County Democratic Party.
As the next representative of District 5 on the County Commission, Hodge also plans to introduce recommendations that will encourage business growth, conserve water rights for the area, address transportation issues and encourage regional partnerships.
She wants the Adams County Commission to consider ways to make available a county-wide preschool program, with support for students on a post-high school basis.
Mary also wants to build on the successful adoption of Referendum 1A, which recently gave Adams County the power to share in the economic development of the area surrounding Denver International Airport Hodge has served in the State Legislature since 2001, first in the House of Representatives and currently in the Senate. She has served the communities of Brighton, N. Aurora, Bennett, Watkins, Strasburg and parts of Thornton. She is known for her efforts on behalf of the establishment of spaceports at locations such as Front Range Airport; and she has worked tirelessly in the area of water laws, keeping those laws flexible while maintaining prior appropriation doctrine.

Joe Salazar: Candidate for State Representative House District 31
https://www.facebook.com/Joe-Salazar-for-HD-31-218886381526327/
While growing up Joe Salazar would dream about what it would be like to be raised on the farm in Colorado’s San Luis Valley or on the ranch in northern New Mexico. His family had been farmers and ranchers there for numerous generations. His parents made the decision to raise the family in Thornton because they wanted us to have every opportunity life could offer.
Joe was 4 years old when they moved to Thornton. At that time, there was hardly anything north of 120th Avenue, except for farmland. His is proud to say he has grown up alongside the City of Thornton, attending Woodglenn Elementary, Northeast Junior High School , and graduating from Thornton High School in 1989.
Growing up in Thornton was the best thing his parents could have done for him. Joe went on to graduate from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Then became a civil rights and criminal investigator for the State of Colorado. In 2003, he graduated from the University of Denver with a law degree and started his own firm where he fights for the unemployed and disadvantaged individuals against bad government. Joe Salazar has spent his whole adult life making sure that the rights of hard working Coloradans are protected.
HOMEBUYER SAVINGS ACCOUNT LAW GOES INTO EFFECT
Rep. Joe Salazar’s new law creating a state income tax deduction for first-time homebuyer savings accounts goes into effect today, making it easier to save for the biggest investment many Coloradans will ever make.
“One of the biggest barriers to home ownership in Colorado is the difficulty of saving enough for a down payment,” said Rep. Salazar, D-Thornton. “Today we begin to empower more Coloradans to become homebuyers. This is a practical step to make housing more affordable in Colorado.”
HB16-1467, sponsored by Rep. Salazar with Majority Leader Crisanta Duran, D-Denver, allows Coloradans to designate a new or existing savings account as a tax-free first-time homebuyer’s account.
The new law was written to encourage a broad variety of investments. Parents, for example, can set up homebuyer accounts for their children.
The bill passed the state legislature this year and was signed by Gov. John Hickenlooper. Its effective date, the 90th day after the legislative session ended, is August 10th.
